For many years CanTorque President Colin Livingston has worked with Mrs. Julie Arsenault from Michael Strembitsky School in Edmonton and Miss Amanda Green’s classes Ecole Coloniale Estates in Beaumont for what has become known as Race Car Day.
It’s a fun event where we discuss what we do at CanTorque as well as the world of racing to provide real world examples for the topics of:
- Hydraulics
- Pneumatics
- Torque
- Tension
- Friction
- Work
- Aerodynamics
- Pressure
Traditionally, we have travelled to the schools with race cars in tow and are able to have interactive discussions with the students, including some very excellent questions asked by the kids. Once we finish the classroom portion we then bring the kids to our race cars for them to see firsthand how things run, get the chance to sit inside and ask even more questions
This year we were forced to hold the session virtually using video conferencing; despite the challenges the session was very well attended.
Random tip from your pal CL: If you want to get the attention of your neighbours fire up your race car and drive it on to the front lawn! Within a few minutes we had a handfull of our friends from our block show up to see what was causing all of the noise and then to check the car out up close.
It was great to be able to do a tour of our facility, demonstrate the concepts used in our hydraulic wrenches of pressure x area x lever, a bit about our laser technology and then a little bit about our Stock Car and Colin’s CRG karts: one is a DD2 and the 2nd is a Shifter.
It took 5 years of convincing but Mrs. Arsenault finally jumped in to the car!
Nothing but smiles on Race Car Day
